Sleepy Cove

Sleepy Cove is a private, vacation property in Playa del Coco which is located in Guanacaste in the Northwest Pacific region of Costa Rica, Central America. The luxurious property is nestled in the beautiful hillside overlooking the town with panoramic views of the Pacific.

I worked on the design and development of the website for Sleepy Cove vacation rentals. The owner wanted the site to reflect the relaxing tropical paradise it featured, but the project was relatively open-ended in regards to style and layout.

Ultimately, I created the site in WordPress by modifying the Arclite theme. It is a responsive layout scaling to screen size and features numerous galleries, an interactive guestbook, virtual tour panoramic images of the property and a neat javascript snippet which alters the header based on the user’s time of day.

James has a great eye for creative and intuitive website design. His knack to recognize a client’s vision and convert that into a work of Art, while maintaining functional, user friendly qualities was exceptional. Sleepy Cove was provided a top-shelf website at a reasonable price.

Ben Jeapes

Ben Jeapes is a Science Fiction writer living in the UK. He writes novels, shorts stories, reviews and has worked as a publisher and technical writer, among other things.

I contacted him about updating his old website which he had been maintaining since 1996 using basic HTML in Windows Notepad and little else. Ben was looking for a more modern looking site which he could maintain himself.

I modified the Twenty-Eleven Theme for WordPress creating custom graphics and incorporating various plugins and other functions for Ben’s site. The site is a responsive design, altering its layout based on the user’s device resolution.

It was my largest project to date, integrating well over 100 pages of content with a fully functioning blog to showcase the author’s vast amount of work, detailed biography and contact information.

James was able to combine the content of my old Web 1.0 website and blog into a single site that is much more modern and infinitely more attractive. The menu structure that he devised hugely enhances the user interface while keeping the sense and functionality of the original site. He is a pleasure to work with.

Zen Insights

Zen Insights is philosophical blog site showcasing inspirational quotes, videos, and discussion about Zen, Buddhism, Taoism and other Eastern schools of thought.

Several contributing authors write their thoughts on philosophy, personal experiences, personal development and self improvement as individuals striving for enlightenment.

I modified the Yoko Theme for wordpress creating and developing a website for Zen Insights. The site design is balanced and flexible, responding to multiple sizes and platforms while maintaining a harmonious, minimalistic style.

Along with a few other writers, I maintain the blog, posting experiences, thoughts on philosophy and inspiring quotes, articles and videos.

Aubrey Therkelsen

Aubrey is a photographer and designer from New Jersey who asked me to create a comprehensive portfolio and blog that would showcase her vast amounts of undergraduate and post graduate work.

I created a digital portfolio website for her which featured all basic contact information and a plethora of gallery pages to display the enormous amount of work Aubrey has created over the years.

The site was built in WordPress by modifying the Yoko theme with custom graphics and CSS. It is a responsive layout, adapting to various screen dimensions.

I worked directly with Aubrey to create the style of the site. It was a challenge to maintain a theme which would not distract the viewer from her work while adding aesthetic appeal to the site.

I came to James Minshall for help designing my fine art portfolio website. James had very little direction as to how I wanted to represent my professional work; it’s hard to imagine a website from scratch. James was able to ask questions pertaining to my personal prefereces in design and color, in order to pull out information that enabled him to pinpoint a professional, appropriate and creative website. It was exactly what I wanted and needed. He drafted several very different mockups to give me interface, font, color, and overall design options. I couldn’t be more pleased with the final result!

James Minshall

My personal website, created in WordPress by modifying the Yoko theme. It is a constant experiment in web design where I test plugins, javascript, create and optimize content for SEO and blog.

I began working on this site independently of my freelance design in 2011 and the site has grown steadily. I use it to write about news and science, post humor and videos or just vent my thoughts.

The site is build with custom graphics, a PHP function that rotates background imagery, contact info, social media integration, various Javascript snippets such as an RSS based news ticker and much more. It is responsive and degrades based on screen width for any size device.
